Monthly Archives: October 2015

Friday, October 30

We began today by reading an article about the characters of Seward and Renfield and answering some multiple choice questions: The Zoophagous Maniac. Students will use that article in writing their short answer response this weekend: Dracula Chapter 18 SAR. Please make sure that you read Chapters 17 and 18 over the weekend. Have a good Halloween!

Wednesday, October 28

We had a lot of fun today performing the play version of Dracula – thank you, once again, to our outstanding actors!

Homework for tonight was to read the first two pages of Chapter 13 and all of Chapter 14 and complete SAR 14: Dracula Chapter 14 SAR. Please remember that to earn the highest marks, you need to show me that you are capable of sophisticated, complex, original insights into the text – not just the easiest, most obvious interpretations!

Tuesday, October 20

Today we started reading Dracula! We spent a lot of time in class covering some background information that you will need to make sense of the novel: Dracula Schema Guide

Then we talked about how to construct short answer responses: Writing a Short Answer Response – Guidelines and Expectations Please pay attention to those guidelines! If you follow them, you should earn a high grade. If you ignore them, I think you will be disappointed.

Finally, we discussed your homework for tonight. Please read Chapters 1 and 2 of Dracula (if you don’t have a copy of the book, you can read it here). Finish SAR 1 tonight (Dracula Chapter 1 SAR) and be ready to do SAR 2 in class tomorrow.

Friday, October 16

We finished our studies of the Odyssey on Friday with a discussion of the maids’ perspective in the Penelopiad and a viewing of the Circe and Underworld portions of the film. Remember that you have a test over the Odyssey on Monday! The best way to prepare for it is to make sure that you have read all of the parts we discussed in class and to review the PowerPoints.
