We began today by reading an article about the characters of Seward and Renfield and answering some multiple choice questions: The Zoophagous Maniac. Students will use that article in writing their short answer response this weekend: Dracula Chapter 18 SAR. Please make sure that you read Chapters 17 and 18 over the weekend. Have a good Halloween!

Thursday, October 29
Today we compared the play version of Dracula (which we read yesterday) to the novel. Then students read the poem “La Belle Dame Sans Merci,” answered multiple choice questions, and discussed it. La Belle Dame Sans Merci Please use that poem in your SAR tonight – Dracula Chapter 16 SAR -1. You also need to read chapters 15 and 16.
Wednesday, October 28
We had a lot of fun today performing the play version of Dracula – thank you, once again, to our outstanding actors!
Homework for tonight was to read the first two pages of Chapter 13 and all of Chapter 14 and complete SAR 14: Dracula Chapter 14 SAR. Please remember that to earn the highest marks, you need to show me that you are capable of sophisticated, complex, original insights into the text – not just the easiest, most obvious interpretations!
Tuesday, October 27
We recapped your reading last night in Dracula. Tonight you need to read chapters 11 and 12 (watch out for the ending of 12!).

Monday, October 26
We started today with a quiz over the first Hot Zone vocabulary words. Next, students continued working on their expository essays. For homework, please read Chapters 9 and 10 of Dracula and complete the SAR 10: Dracula Chapter 10 SAR
Thursday, October 22
Students completed their Dracula 4 vocabulary quiz in class today – if you were absent, please come make it up on Monday or Tuesday of next week so that I can get the grade in before progress reports go out.
Afterwards, students read an article about the origins of vampire myths – Villagers buried suspected vampires with blades.
Homework for tonight is to read Chapters 5 and 6 – no SAR! 🙂
Wednesday, October 21
We began today’s class with a SAR about Chapter 2. Dracula Chapter 2 SAR If you were absent, please make that up ASAP.
I told you that tomorrow in class, we would have an open-note quiz over Dracula 4, so please remember to bring your lists.
Homework tonight was to read chapters 3 and 4 and complete the SAR for 3: Dracula Chapter 3 SAR
Tuesday, October 20
Today we started reading Dracula! We spent a lot of time in class covering some background information that you will need to make sense of the novel: Dracula Schema Guide
Then we talked about how to construct short answer responses: Writing a Short Answer Response – Guidelines and Expectations Please pay attention to those guidelines! If you follow them, you should earn a high grade. If you ignore them, I think you will be disappointed.
Finally, we discussed your homework for tonight. Please read Chapters 1 and 2 of Dracula (if you don’t have a copy of the book, you can read it here). Finish SAR 1 tonight (Dracula Chapter 1 SAR) and be ready to do SAR 2 in class tomorrow.

We took our Odyssey test today. Which means that tomorrow, we start Dracula! Please make sure that you have your book. 🙂
Friday, October 16
We finished our studies of the Odyssey on Friday with a discussion of the maids’ perspective in the Penelopiad and a viewing of the Circe and Underworld portions of the film. Remember that you have a test over the Odyssey on Monday! The best way to prepare for it is to make sure that you have read all of the parts we discussed in class and to review the PowerPoints.
