After we had our last discussion over The Joy Luck Club, students spent the rest of class writing their essays about journeys. If you were not able to finish in that time, you can turn it in on Monday.

Today in class, students began writing their essays. Homework for tonight is the last JLC story (The Joy Luck Club Reading Guide 16).

Today in class, we will:

1. talk about last night’s JLC reading.
2. look at an opportunity to raise your pronouns quiz grade (Pronoun Quiz Make Up) and some extra credit for the quiz (Cycle 2 Extra Credit).
3. work on prewriting for your essay.
4. get started on your homework for tonight (The Joy Luck Club Reading Guide 15).

1. go over the last JLC vocabulary list.
2. talk about an essay that you will write on Friday. Here is an electronic copy of a handout on writing a solid thesis (1 – Thesis — you won’t be getting a paper copy of this), and here is the prompt/rubric for the essay itself (Journey Essay Rubric).
3. Homework for tonight is the 14th story (The Joy Luck Club Reading Guide 14).

Today students will be taking their quiz over pronouns. You don’t have a reading guide tonight! Instead, I just want you to make sure that you have completed your timeline and are ready to turn it in through Google Classroom tomorrow.

On Friday we continued talking about pronouns — homework was the next JLC reading guide (The Joy Luck Club Reading Guide 13).
