Here was the distribution of grades for our grammar exam on Monday:
If you scored a 60 or above, you can add 10 points to your grade by completing a grammar review Thursday during lunch. (You must come at the very beginning of the lunch hour.)
If you scored below a 60 and would like to raise your grade up to a 70, you must 1) complete the grammar review during lunch on Thursday and 2) come take a retest during lunch on Friday (come at the very beginning of the lunch period).
Today students read a short article about new treatments for Ebola and answered some multiple choice questions based on that — if you were absent, please come make that up on Friday during lunch. Students had the rest of the period to complete their reading guides, which are due tomorrow.
On Monday students took their parts of speech and phrases exam. Homework was the first Hot Zone Reading Guide, due Wednesday — see me for a copy of the reading guides because there are two different versions depending on which book you have.
Today we are talking about the article that you read yesterday and analyzed for the author’s use of language. We’re also answering some AP-style multiple choice questions about the other article that you read (if you’re not done with your annotations, you can turn those in to me on Monday). No homework for tonight!
On Wednesday, we went through the practice grammar exam and talked about questions that you still had ahead of the real test.
Students also started reading an article and answering some questions on the author’s use of language to make his argument (Bats Harbor Hundreds of Coronaviruses).
Today in class, we talked about the podcast, and I gave you 1) a parts of speech one-page review (Parts of Speech One Sheeter), 2) a phrases one-page review (Phrases Review v2), and 3) a practice grammar exam (Phrases Practice Exam) that is identical in form and content to the test that you will take on Monday.
We’ll be going over the answers to the practice test tomorrow, so try to answer all of the questions so that you have an accurate read on what you know and what you need to study!
Today students will be taking their Hot Zone List 1 vocabulary quiz.
Homework due tomorrow (Tuesday) is to listen to this podcast and answer these questions (Radiolab Patient Zero Podcast Questions).
Homework due on Wednesday is to read an annotate the article that you picked up in class today (see me for a paper copy).
On Friday we continued watching performances; students had a reflective sheet to fill out. If you weren’t here, please get one of those and turn it in to me ASAP.
Today was the first day of our play performances! We’ll continue tomorrow; homework is to continue working on your individual project (due on Monday!).
Today we went over your first Hot Zone vocabulary list — you will have a quiz over those words (and only those words) on Monday. I also asked you to try to get a copy of The Hot Zone by Monday, March 2 — here is the Amazon link.
