Please remember that we are coming up on the end of our canned protein competition! Please see if you are able to contribute a little to help make someone else’s holiday a bit better.
We started today with a discussion of CMC Reading Guide 2. CMC Reading Guide 3 is your homework (cmc-reading-guide-3) and is due on Monday. Also on Monday, you will take your CMC Vocab 1 and prepositional phrases quiz. Please remember what I told you – that these words are a little harder, and if you were able to get by without studying in the past, you might want to really consider if you are prepared.
With the remainder of time today, students read the famous Edgar Allen Poe short story, “The Cask of Amontillado,” and students answered some multiple choice questions (the-cask-of-amontillado-reading-quiz and the-cask-of-amontillado-story).
Enjoy this beautiful weather over the weekend! 🙂
Today we began with a discussion of Reading Guide 1. Please make sure that you have Reading Guide 2 (cmc-reading-guide-2) ready to go for tomorrow. We also went over prepositional phrases (see the materials in the grammar section of the website) and the first CMC vocabulary list (see the materials under the vocab section).

Happy Election Day! I hope that you all get a chance to watch the election coverage tonight.
I gave students a chance to get jump-started on CMC reading in class today. We talked about how important it is to have a clear picture of what happens at the beginning of this book so that you are not confused later. For homework tonight, please make sure that your Reading Guide 1 is complete so that we can discuss it tomorrow during class.
We began our study of The Count of Monte Cristo today! We started by building some background knowledge on the setting in which the book takes place (cmc-schema-study-guide). Then we watched the Crash Course lesson on the French Revolution:
Homework for tonight and Tuesday is the first reading guide for the novel (cmc-reading-guide-1) – please have this ready to turn in on Wednesday.
And check out the new Count of Monte Cristo tab of the website for lots of other background information on the book!
We finished some outstanding JLC presentations today – it looks like many of you learned a lot from the novel! Enjoy your homework-free weekend, and on Monday, we’ll be starting The Count of Monte Cristo!
We had our first round of presentations today – if your group is going tomorrow, please make sure that you share your presentation with me AT LEAST 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE START OF CLASS. You will need to send it to BOTH my HISD email (echapman@houstonisd.org) and my Google account (elizabethchapman.bhs@gmail.com).
Today was our last day of working on our presentations! Here is the schedule:
