We finished up our notes on tone today in class. Homework was to begin working on the “What’s in a Name?” writing assignment, which is due Friday. My Name Writing Assignment

Important! On Monday, you will take your test over The Hunger Games. About half will be a did-you-read? question format, and about half will use passages from the book to test you over the reading objectives we have been learning in class – author’s purpose, metaphors, characterization, and the like. YOU CAN EARN 10 POINTS OF EXTRA CREDIT ON THE TEST BY TAKING THE MOCK PSAT AT BELLAIRE THIS SATURDAY! Sign up to take the test here.

It was quite a whirlwind day today!

Our warm-up was to read our free choice books for 10 minutes. Homework was to read for 45 minutes tonight, and tomorrow’s warm-up will also be reading, so please make sure you have your book.

I told you that you need to have your copy of Ella Minnow Pea by Friday, September 26.

I also told you that the Pre-AP teachers and I have asked you to compile all of your HUB responses for your self-selected summer reading (The Joy Luck Club, Life of Pi, and The Kite Runner) into a Word document, print it, and give it to me by Thursday. This will help us to make sure that we see all of your work when we give you a grade. Here’s a sample. Hunger Games Warm

Students then worked on annotating a characterization word sheet that will be a resource for us throughout the year. Character Trait Words

We looked at some of your graded writing, but then I took it back up to keep in your portfolios – I think it will be nice for you to look back at all that you have accomplished in May! 🙂
