I’m sorry that we had to push our vocabulary quiz to today! (I’m sure that you were sad too! 😉 ) We also talked about Glass Castle Reading Guide 2. RG 3 (Glass Castle Reading Guide 3)  is due tomorrow.

STAAR Week
Happy STAAR week! I hope that your exam went well, and I’m looking forward to moving on to some new material in English.
This week, we have focused on getting started on The Glass Castle. Here are the first two reading guides:
- Glass Castle Reading Guide 1Â (due Friday)
- Glass Castle Reading Guide 2Â (due Monday)
On Monday, we will also take our Glass Castle Vocab 1 quiz (no grammar). Please make sure that you have finished Vocabulary.com for the list BEFORE you take the quiz (it will count for a grade).
Friday, April 6
Hopefully everything went well with the substitute while I was at my Shakespeare training on Friday — you were supposed to have completed a STAAR-style essay on the ways that a person’s family can impact them.
A couple of important reminders:
- Please see if you can secure a copy of The Glass Castle if you did not order one. They should be plentiful at Half Price Books and other used bookstores.
- We will be having an extra credit movie on MONDAY for those of you who would like a last-minute boost to your report card averages.
Wednesday, April 3 and Thursday, April 4
We have continued to work on everyone’s favorite assignment, STAAR essays! 🙂 Please get paper copies of materials from the classroom.
Tuesday, April 3
We discussed our final Hot Zone reading guide today! It sounds like many of you really enjoyed the book (I hope that’s the case).
Our next text will be The Glass Castle. As I said in class, you may purchase a copy for $12. The school probably does not have enough copies to check out to everyone, so in that case, some of you might need to read an online version. If you want to guarantee that you will have a paper copy, purchasing one is your best best. You should also be able to find a used copy for much less at Half Price Books (or a similar bookseller).
With the remainder of class, we worked on some STAAR review over multiple choice questions.
Monday, April 2
Today we took our exam over “The Ebola Fighters” —Â if you were absent, please come make this up Thursday during lunch (I will be at a teacher training on Friday).
Homework is to finish the final Hot Zone Reading Guide (#8).
Thursday, March 29
Here is the final Hot Zone Reading Guide:Â The Hot Zone Reading Guide 8.
With the rest of our time, students wrote their essays about how to stop an epidemic. If you still need to make that up, please come see me.
